About the role


The role of the Senior Speech Pathologist is to work within the Mission and Mission in Action of HammondCare to ensure a high standard of speech pathology service is provided to patients of the Hospital, along with appropriate support and advice to their carers. The Senior Speech Pathologist will participate as a member of the multi-disciplinary team to ensure a patient centred, evidence-based, continuous quality improvement work environment that is consistent with the values and ethics of HammondCare and Speech Pathology Australia.

 

The essence of this role:

  • Provision of effective and efficient speech pathology service to clients and appropriate support and advice to their carers
  • Participate as a member of the multi-disciplinary team in assessing patients’ level of functional and care needs, setting swallowing and communication goals and providing appropriate intervention
  • Participate as a member of the HammondCare team and the local allied health leadership team in the application of the organisation’s Mission and values to the pursuit of its objectives in a client centred, continuous quality improvement work environment
  • Provide leadership within allocated specialty area including supervision of allocated staff and students in the performance of their duties and the provision of the highest standards of quality care

 

About you

ESSENTIAL

  • Commitment to engage and align with HammondCare’s Christian Mission, Motivation and Mission in Action
  • A tertiary qualification in Speech Pathology acceptable to Speech Pathology Australia as a practising member
  • Significant practical experience or Extensive Knowledge in providing Speech Pathology Services in a Rehabilitation, Aged Care or Palliative Care setting. Experience across inpatient and outpatient/ community settings would be desirable
  • Experience in staff supervision
  • A current drivers licence and safe driving record
  • Willingness to travel between HammondCare’s sites and services
  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills (written and verbal)
  • Demonstrated organisation and time management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Empathy and patience

 

DESIRABLE

  • Strong administrative and computer skills
  • Experience working in a multi-cultural environment
  • An understanding of Work Health and Safety policies and procedures.
