The opportunity 

The Employee Relations Manager provides strategic and commercial employee and industrial relations advice across the full range of ER/IR activities and is responsible for the day-to-day management of our Employee Relations and People Advisory team. This role supports the General Manager, Employee Relations and Reward to build organisational capability in contemporary ER/IR practice and lead enterprise bargaining negotiations.

Key Focus Areas

  • Provide day-to-day management of the Employee Relations and People Advisory team, including capability development and case allocation
  • Provide strategic and commercial advice across the full range of ER/IR activities
  • Coach leaders and the broader People Team to build capability in contemporary ER/IR practice, including interpretation and understanding of industrial instruments, policies and legislation
  • Support the development and implementation of ER/IR solutions that enable execution of organisational strategy
  • Lead the consultation and negotiation process for HammondCare’s enterprise agreements, and support consultation processes in respect of major change

This role is based in St Leonards, with hybrid working options.

Duties include

  • Deliver tailored, informed advice in relation to complex ER/IR problems and support the creation and implementation of innovative solutions
  • Support the People Advisory team to deliver best practice performance management and independent workplace investigations
  • Represent HammondCare in the Fair Work Commission and other relevant tribunals as required
  • Engage with and respond to relevant trade unions as required
  • With support from the General Manager, Employee Relations and Reward, manage the day-to-day consultation and negotiation process for HammondCare’s enterprise agreements in line with HammondCare’s employee relations strategy and philosophy
  • Provide advice and support for consultation processes in respect of major organisational change
  • Support capability development in leaders and the broader People Team in the application of contemporary ER/IR practice and procedure
  • Provide interpretation and explanation of industrial instruments and legislation
  • Any other duties required by HammondCare from time to time 

Who are you?

  • Commitment to engage and align with HammondCare’s Christian Mission, Motivation and Mission in Action
  • Tertiary qualifications in Employee or Industrial Relations, Human Resource Management, Law or a related field
  • Significant demonstrated experience in the ER/IR space with minimum 3 years’ experience in an ER/IR Management role
  • Demonstrated experience managing, supporting and motivating teams
  • Proven experience liaising and negotiating with unions
  • Proven experience in implementing change initiatives aligned to organisational strategy
  • Strong knowledge of employment legislation and industrial instrument interpretation
  • Strong technical and interpretative skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Significant influencing, negotiation and stakeholder management skills
  • Experience in aged care / health care settings (desirable)
  • Experience in a not-for-profit setting (desirable)
